The Work at Home Expo 2015

ManilaWorkshops.com and the WAHMderful Life Community invites you to The Work at Home Expo 2015! The WAH Expo is an annual one-day expo of talks and mini- workshops geared towards the encouragement and empowerment of Filipinos who are working from home or would like to be work from home professionals. These events are for people who are currently working from home as entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, freelancers, and for those who are planning to work from home in the near future. This event will provide attendees knowledge and tips about working from home. It will also be a great event where people can network and meet other people that they can collaborate or work with or for in the future.
Our very first workshop in 2012 resulted in a sold-out event, with over forty work at home professionals and freelancers in attendance, all of whom benefited from a wealth of insights and knowledge from authentic and experienced work from home professionals. We have since held 12 subsequent workshops, and two annual expos, all in-line with “helping individuals find their bliss working from home while making a home.” The Work at Home Expo last year had around 290 participants with almost 50 booths from different players in the industry and from the small business owners, as well.

Hustle. Heist. Repeat. PLASTIC: CASTING THE FRAUDSTERS

Brilliant college student Sam has the perfect credit card scam until his crew robs the wrong man. Now they have two weeks to repay ruthless gangster Marcel two million dollars or they will be dead. Sam and his team devise a scheme to clear their debt by heading to Miami to poach enough cash and merchandise.
_T0A1401 (1)
But they come up short. So Sam and his gang set their sights on a daring jewelry heist that could make them hugely wealthy for life. Their plan turns sour, however, when the team members start turning on each other. Now it’s up to Sam to finish the brazen heist and turn the tables on Marcel before they all go down.
PLASTIC EMMA RIGBY ED SPEELERS
High Octane from start to finish, PLASTIC is based on the incredible true story of the UK Fraudsters from Manchester who stole £20 million worth of diamonds from jewelers in Beverly Hills back in 1997.
The film stars Ed Speleers (Sam), Alfie Allen (Yatesy), Sebastian De Souza (Rafa), Will Poulter (Fordy), and Emma Rigby (Frankie).
Producers Terry Stone and Dan Toland wanted to use the premise of the real story, but decided to change the characters and setting in order to make it more stylish and modern. It meant finding the right people for the characters was even more important to fit in with the Gilbey brother’s vision.
Plastic Emma Rigby Will Poulter (1)
The central ensemble is led by control-freak, Sam, who is played by Ed Speleers (Downtown Abbey, A Lonely Place to Die). Ed had previously worked with Julian before on A Lonely Place to Die so their working relationship was already closely established. Julian was fully aware that Ed was a talented actor who really works at his craft. “He really came up with some good character ideas. He’s a solid leading man and a great guy to work with,” says Julian. Ed had heard of the script not only through his manager but also through Julian. When he realised they wanted someone a lot younger than originally planned, he jumped at the chance to play Sam.
When they approached Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones, Attonement) the crew were thrilled that he was interested in the script. Julian says: “I was in Miami when I got the call that Alfie really wanted to play the role and we just jumped about. He was perfect. Yatesy is a great role; he’s a dreadful, wonderful, spiteful and conflicted character and Alfie puts on a very honest performance. Although the character is very vain, Alfie isn’t at all.” Alfie himself said he loved playing the cheeky rogue and that the entire cast got on really well. “[The producers] got the dynamics of the characters so right,” he says.
The part of Fordy went to Will Poulter (We’re the Millers, The Chronicles of Narnia) who has received nothing but praise for his work on set and his attitude off set from both cast and crew. Poulter explains that he liked the character of Fordy as soon as he read the script. “I got sent the script by my agency and read it and l really enjoyed it. It’s a really fun. I loved the character of Fordy; he’s a lot more intelligent than me.” Julian and Will sat down many times to discuss how to keep Fordy on the side of the audience but still have that level of ambiguity about the character. “I really love Will, he really grounds this film. Playing the straight character is a very difficult thing to do but the truth of the matter is, is how straight is Fordy? He’s working in credit card fraud so he’s still a criminal.”
The character of Rafa, who is seemlingly closer to Yatesy than any of the other boys, is played by Sebastian De Souza (The Borgias, Skins). Plastic is his first feature film after a background in television and he was very “pleased and grateful” to be offered the role after hearing about it through his agency. When speaking about the character, De Souza says “initially you’d read him as a joke of the four boys, but eventually he earns his keep by coming up with the idea that in theory will save them from death by Marcel.”
Last, but not least, is the character of Frankie, played by Emma Rigby (Hollyoaks) who’s also new to the film scene, this being her first lead role in a feature film. “When we originally looked at Emma we just thought well here’s someone really glamorous, she’s got the look of a great Hollywood starlet. The camera absolutely loves her plus she’s a great actress so her central performance is amazing along with Ed’s and there’s that real vibe between them” says Dan Toland.
When talking about the script, Emma says: “I was really interested in it being based on a true story. I also liked the aspect of it being a heist and that the cast were really young.”
When discussing the main cast, Toland says there’s a real vibe and dynamic that really centres all performances. “They all play off each other which really brings the story to life.”
As Julian Gilbey puts it, Plastic is “not another film where a bunch of cockney geezers are blowing people’s heads off in Range Rovers!” What it is is an emotive story about five students, who get out of their depth in the shady world of credit card fraud. Toland describes it as hugely entertaining with “Robin Hood themes” running throughout. It’s British film-making at its best and features an amazing up-and-coming young cast that is set to wow audiences aged from teenagers to adults.

The Nearest Lugawan in my Neighborhood is in OPENSNAP?

First off, I just had to tell you guys how awesome Opensnap can be! Can you believe it - the local eatery/(famous)landmark in our barangay is indeed, detected by this app with matching (accurate) picture pa? A for Effort! Raise the roof! (If you wanna see the photo - download the app, man.)
Apparently, I was really surprised! Akala ko mga pa-tutyal lang na restaurants ang andito; yun pala andito not just fast food but even eateries (which inspired me to write this post in Tag-Lish); it almost has everything! The point is, the app is so very much useful! (Redundant to emphasize!) This app-being really lives up to its purpose (to find food), most specially on local places that are new to you (hal. bagong-salta ka, o 'di kaya naligaw ka, your stomach is growling while your pocket is growling too). Very useful talaga siya! Akala mo kung ano lang, food house pala! Yay!

***

Okay, moving on...
In this typhoon weather, there is nothing else more exciting to do than eat something for the soul with a hashtag #foodforsoul. And, it's just oh-so-good to know that (at least in my area) lugaw (porridge in British, congee in Asian) is just around the corner (more like end of the street in my case)! The Tony & Precy Lugawan offers delicious lugaw in plain or with different toppings/ingredients like boiled egg, lomo (tenderloin), and tuwalya (pork intestines). They also offer mami (flour noodles in broth) and side dishes like tokwa (plain soybean curd), tokwa't babuy (soybean curd with sliced pork).
My gourmet photo attempt: Lomo
What's more is that they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - unless it's the 24th of December or the Holy Week.

Tip#1: Want more servings? Take it out! To go, or take away whatever sossy-word you wanna call it. In short, balot. Yes, ipabalot ang lugaw and sa bahay na kumain. Mas marami ang take out servings nila. Maybe it's because they wouldn't wash a dish when you take out? Or the dine-in bowl is smaller? Or the take-out plastic bag is bigger? IDK.

Tip#2: Don't forget to ask for condiments. Saraaap! #nomnom

Find the nearest eatery near you with OpenSnap!

PS. - This app could pass as subject for my #MBF episodes! (#thinkingoutloud)

PSS. - Just so you know, to find the nearest local food house around you. Download OpenSnap and tap "Nearby" button - that is where precious edible gems (food) are hidden.  Perfect for tourists who want to experience local food house too!

PSSS. - You could help this app map the local food scene near you, just by uploading pictures including food, interior and of course, selfie inside restaurant!

PSSSS. - This app is a great way to spread word about your eatery/carenderia/gotohan/tapahan whatever. (Kaway-kaway business owners!)
#sonearyetsofar will definitely become #sonearandsodelicious with additional hashtag #cravingssolved!

I end this post burping. (Yes, I ate that Lomo (photo above) while doing this. It's raining!)

OPENSNAP Bulgogi's Brothers Greenbelt 5

My mom's studying Hangul and eversince then, she started to embrace not just the language but the culture and in the process, she introduced us to it. From eating spicy kimchi, to making one, to eating paper seaweed, gulping Shabu-Shabu soup and so on. Did we love it? Personally not a fan of super spicy kimchi, but nonetheless yes, we did love it; from K-pop, to Koreanovelas and now, I'm currently finding myself craving for some seafood hot pot, spicy bowl of soup and the famous samgyeopsal!

wpid-c360_2014-01-12-12-51-11-999
What's most surprising about dining here is their uncommon appetizers/side dishes - the unlimited boiled sweet potatoes, sweet corn and quail eggs.
Unlimited salad screams healthy snacking.
And when you choke on a big mouthful of spicy kimchi - ask the staff for their Hot Bori cha aka Barley tea (that I first taught was a rice tea - taste delicious for someone who don't usually choose tea for drinks). Mind you, the tea is bottomless too.
My dates: Parents!

Effortless Shopping tips to all Shoppers On the Go
Secure Shopping
• For mobile shopping, choose shopping sites with an app. It’s easier to use and most importantly, more secure as it’s harder to tamper with.
• Check news articles about the shopping site to ensure it’s not a temporary online shop that will disappear after pocketing your money.
• Ensure the shopping site has a return policy such as Lazada’s Buyer Protection: online shops without return policies can mean scam or unauthentic products.
• Do not give your password to anyone. Online shops’ email support or call support personnel should never require your password for identification.
• Only use your credit or debit card on sites with a padlock icon in the URL bar. This means the site uses secure communications to prevent any third-party eavesdropping.
• Check for security labels such as PCI-DSS certification. This means the shop has been audited and is certified safe to use.
• If you don’t receive an acknowledgement email from the online shop shortly after a purchase, there might be an issue with your purchase or it might be a scam. Call the site’s hotline to verify.
• If you strongly suspect you have been scammed and your credit card information has been stolen, contact your bank or credit card issuer to block the card and investigate.
Savvy Fashionistas
• Pick the right size by using the size chart feature, taking your measurements and checking carefully for any international conversions (UK, US, EU, Japan).
• Ensure the site has an exchange policy like Lazada’s 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed policy that enables you to return clothes within 7 days, and re-order the outfit in a size that fits you perfectly.
• Only shop for fashion on shopping apps that provide a few angles so you can see exactly how the clothes fit on the model or mannequin.
• Get your friends’ comments or ‘likes’ easily by sharing the item on Facebook or Instagram before buying.
• Read product details to check on the fabrication so you’ll know how the clothes feel on you.
Parenting Shoppers
• Spend quality time with your family instead of getting caught in traffic to the shopping mall. Shopping at the Lazada Mobile App lets you shop at your convenience, any time of the day!
• Diapers and milk powder are not only expensive, but heavy to carry. Look out for online promotions and take advantage of door-step delivery.
• Follow the Lazada Super Moms Facebook page and subscribe to the newsletters to get the latest deals delivered straight to you.
• Don’t let getting overwhelmed in crowded malls and toy stores stop you from giving the best to your kids. Shop for educational toys online, conveniently.
• If you’ve brought the wrong size of maternity clothes, take advantage of Lazada’s 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed policy. Return the wrong size within 14 days (30 for Vietnam), and re-order the outfit in the right size.
Tech Addicts
• Online shopping allows you to compare prices for your favourite gadget. Do keep a look out for sellers on the same site that may offer a bigger discount or bundle deal.
• Searching for phone accessories, power banks and covers is less overwhelming online as you can easily compare your options and colors, and sort them by price.
• Subscribe to Lazada’s newsletter or like our Facebook page to get news on exclusive and limited edition tech launches.
• When looking for a gadget in a specific model or colour, check out Lazada’s wide range online first. It’s better than visiting the retail store and discovering the gadget’s sold out.
• Shopping for your favourite gadget online is easy. You can do it anytime of the day with fast and reliable delivery to your home or office.
Smart Savers
• Take advantage of free shipping if you spend a certain amount, or do a group order with friends so you can all enjoy free shipping.
• Download the Lazada mobile application to enjoy special app-only discounts and access sales anywhere, anytime! Turn on push notifications on mobile to stay updated on the latest promotions.
• Watch out for time-sensitive flash deals, set your alarm so you don’t miss the promotion!

HOW DO I LOOK? ASIA ARRIVES ON DIVA TO FIX ASIA’S FASHION FAUX PAS

Join SAZZY FALAK and JEANNIE MAI in the all-new
Asian take on the popular US hit makeover series
How Do I Look Asia

It’s time to go head over heels for DIVA’s How Do I Look? Asia – the highly anticipated Asian re-imagination of the hit fashion makeover series. Billed as “Asia’s ultimate fashion fix,” How Do I Look? Asia will make its debut on Monday, 31 August at 8PM (SIN/MAL) on DIVA, NBCUniversal International Networks’ leading entertainment channel for women in Asia.
The NBCUniversal International format, produced by NBCUniversal’s Matchbox Asia, follows Malaysian celebrity and style icon Sazzy Falak as she guides eight fashion victims to the path of fashion enlightenment. Jeannie Mai, host of the original U.S. version, and a familiar face to Asian viewers, features in each episode, setting up the fashion challenges each week.
The fashion-challenged victims include onesie-addict/ blogger Apple Allison of Sole Searching Soul (Philippines); indie rock guitarist Ariana (Malaysia); mismatch, mishap/ watercolor artist Choc (Taiwan); sales executive, and literally plain Jane (Philippines/Australia); overachieving, yet outdated, Lavinya (Malaysia); rebel teacher Lianni (Philippines); romantically-insecure Maisarah (Singapore); and the uninspiringly-dressed motivational speaker Yessinta (Indonesia).
To achieve a professional look that can be replicated for the everyday, Sazzy will be joined by a guest stylist in each episode: Liz Uy (Filipina celebrity stylist); Zac Wu (Taiwanese celebrity stylist); Andrea Wong (former editor of Elle Malaysia); and Anindita Saryuf (fashion director of Elle Indonesia).
In each episode, Sazzy and an accomplice – a concerned family member, friend or colleague – will help transform the lucky fashion victim into a beacon of style.   After having their wardrobe raided, the individual will have their current fashion choices face the “Eww Tube”, one of the iconic features of the original format. The “Eww Tube” is a vacuum cleaner-like machine that literally sucks offending outfits up and away after they have been eliminated by the panel of fashion experts and accomplices.
The transformations featured on the series transcend fashion and style. Viewers will also get to witness the complex and emotional backstories of the victims, whose glamorous new looks, and freshly developed sense of style, act as a catalyst for them to adopt a more positive and confident outlook on life.
How Do I Look? Asia is a testament to DIVAs position as the leading womens entertainment channel in Asia. We are confident that this ground-breaking local production, like its original franchise, will strongly resonate with our core female audiences across the region,” said Christine Fellowes, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, NBCUniversal International Networks. “Using the insights from various in-depth research initiatives on Asian women that NBCUniversal has conducted and developed over the recent years, How Do I Look? Asia features many of the elements that we found women loved: fabulous and fun makeovers, the hottest fashion trends tailored to Asian sensibilities, inspiring and heart-warming personal stories, and a positive underlying message that encourages every woman to be her best self.
Jeannie and Sazzy will be making live appearances as they tour Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam later this month on the following dates:
  • Singapore: 20-22 August
  • Kuala Lumpur: 23-25 August
  • Ho Chi Minh City: 26-27 August
How Do I Look? Asia Season One is presented by regional sponsor Zalora.
Tito Costa, Managing Director of ZALORA Group, said, “We’re excited to be working with How Do I Look? Asias very first season of fashion makeover series and we’re proud to contribute to the life-changing makeovers featured throughout the show. ZALORA supports Asia's diverse forms of beauty and seeks to empower women through fashion by giving them the confidence to own whatever moment they find themselves in and to encourage them to be the best version of themselves. The show’s goal is aligned with ZALORA’s commitment to provide a carefully-curated range of fashion options as the right tools to create confidence-boosting looks. This is perfectly echoed in the weekly fashion transformations featured throughout the show.”
In Malaysia, the series is also presented by Marigold Yogurt Drink and Panasonic Beauty.
Clozette is the Official Fashion Social Network of the series, which is filmed at an NBCUniversal International studio set built in Solaire Resort & Casino, Manila.
