Sitting at the helm of some of the biggest companies in the country, self-made business magnate, Manuel V. Pangilinan, has been recognized time and time again throughout his career. This 2015, he adds one more notable recognition to his name, as this year’s recipient of the Ramon V. Del Rosario (RVR) Award for Nation-Building.
Launched in 2009 to recognize individuals who exemplify outstanding corporate citizenship and a passion for nation-building, the RVR Awards aims to increase awareness about responsible citizenship and the pursuit of progress among entrepreneurs, businessmen, and professionals. The award was named in honor of Ramon V. Del Rosario Sr., founder of the Philippine Investment and Management Consultants (PHINMA), Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), and the first Filipino-owned oil company, FilOil. His passion for inspiring the development of the next generation of business leaders is also evident throughout his run as the first national president of the Junior Chamber International-Manila (JCI Manila), Asia’s first and premier leadership development organization for young professionals. In line with the values of nation-building, the organization has spearheaded various awards programs such as the Ten Outstanding Young Men Award (TOYM), the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award (BTCA), and the prestigious RVR Award for Nation Building.
For the past five years, the Awarding Committee has been seeking to honor outstanding men and women in business that inspire the next generation of professionals and business owners through traits such as entrepreneurial spirit, national or global impact of business, corporate citizenship, and social responsibility. Previous recipients of the RVR Awards include Ambassador Jesus Tambunting and Senen Bacani, Oscal Lopez, Washington Sycip, Vicente Paterno, and last year’s awardee, Jaime Zobel de Ayala.
Now on its sixth year, the RVR Awards will be awarded to one of the most highly regarded business leaders in the region. MVP, as most people know him, has a life story and career that showcases how a combination of hard work, resilience, honesty, and perseverance can bring about a meteoric rise from humble beginnings. Despite his personal success, MVP does not forget to give back to the community by organizing various corporate social responsibility initiatives such as the “Tulong Kapatid” telethon and “Shore It Up” coastal clean-ups. Aside from this, he also heads one of the country’s largest NGOs, the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP). In addition, he is the chairman of the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation, which brings together business groups to provide aid in the aftermath of calamities.
“Mr. Pangilinan’s trajectory from living a simple student life to being one of the biggest and most successful entrepreneurs in the country is truly inspiring and admirable,” said Laurence Ching, Chairman for RVR Awards 2015. “His inspirational contributions both to the economic and social landscapes of the Philippines are commendable. We hope this inspires and encourages the new breed of Filipino entrepreneurs to emulate and apply MVP’s principles, ethics, heart, and passion for success for himself and the country.”
The awards were held on July 29 and was presented by CATS Motors, exclusive distributor of Mercedes Benz, Wofex Food Expo, Phinma Properties, Fil Oil & Flying V,  PLDT – Big Data, Esktaya Beach Resort & Spa, and Ralph Wine & Spirit; supported by Broadway Motors, RedStar, Mili Power Bank, Motorix, LightWorks, and Alumaster; with media partners DV Tech for media production, Maverick for media solutions, and Perk Communications, Inc.  for media relations.
