Davao Regional Selection Camp: Eleven Young Ballers off to Manila for Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2016 National Training Camp


Young cagers gathered and showcased their skills on the hardcourt as Jr. NBA/WNBA Philippines 2016 presented by Alaska went to Ateneo de Davao University, Matina campus on February 27-28 for the fourth staging of the Regional Selection Camp in Mindanao. Seven boys and four girls were selected from 543 kids who participated in this year’s program.
Alfonso Luis Candari, 13, of Ateneo de Davao; Lance Centeno, 13, of Ateneo de Davao; Joven Neil Deligero, 13, of Daniel R. Aguinaldo National Highschool; Louis Andre Joring, 13, of St. Mary’s School; Tyron Limar Langala, 14, of St. Mary’s School; Anscar Mamac, 14, of Holy Child College of Davao; and Rysan Villasenta, 13, of Holy Child College of Davao topped the boys division. Rozie Amatong, 11, of Modern International Learning Center; Aloha Marie Betanio, 12, of Malaybalay Ciity Central School; Kate Buenaventura, 13, of Ateneo de Davao; and Marcila Grace Dellosa, 14, of Bangoy National Highschool topped the girls division.
The young athletes excelled in the skills stations and scrimmages and exemplified the Jr. NBA/WNBA core S.T.A.R. values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, a positive Attitude and Respect throughout the camp. The kids will also represent Mindanao in the Jr. NBA/WNBA Philippines National Training Camp this April and will try out with top players from the four Regional Selection Camps for the chance to be named as Jr. NBA/WNBA Philippines All-Star and participate in an overseas NBA experience.
The next stop of the Jr. NBA/WNBA Philippines Regional Selection Camp will be in Cebu (March 5-6) followed by Manila (April 9-10). Boys and girls ages 10-14 can still register to the free youth basketball program at www.jrnba.asia/philippines, where the program terms and conditions can be found.

Baguio Regional Selection Camp: Eight Young Cagers to Represent North Luzon in the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines 2016 National Training Camp in Manila


After two days of progressive drills and scrimmages, six boys and two girls tripped the first Regional Selection Camp of the Jr. NBA /Jr. WNBA Philippines 2016 presented by Alaska held February 20-21 at Benguet State University.
Jan Zyrus de Ayre, of Berkeley School, 14; Ric Ozner Joshua Gatuz of Cherished Moments School, 13; Vincent Mabiwo of University of the Cordilleras, 13; Emmanuel James Macaranasan of Bayambang National High School, 14; Wrench Mason Roquid of University of Perpetual Help System – Laguna, 13 ruled the boys division while Katreena Areola, 13 also from Berkeley School; and Rae Jemima Caba, 13, of St. Louis University – Laboratory Elementary School are the girls who will represent North Luzon to the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Philippines Training Camp this April.
These eight young ballers stood out from among the 667 Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA participants from the Cordillera Administrative Region and young players from Batangas and Laguna in South Luzon who travelled to Benguet for the opportunity to be selected for advancement to the next stages of the NBA’s global youth basketball participation program.
Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA 2016 Regional Selection Camp’s next stop will be Davao (February 27-28) followed by Cebu (March 5-6) and Manila (April 9-10). Qualified boys and girls who wish to join the selection camps may still register at www.jrnba.asia/philippines . The program is absolutely free.
The finalists excelled in the skills and scrimmages and exemplified Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA core S.T.A.R. values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, a positive Attitude and Respect throughout the camp. The Jr. NBA committee headed by Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Coach Craig Brown evaluated the regional finalists. “I think everyone’s performance was outstanding and everyone had a positive attitude. I applaud the North Luzon participants for coming out and giving their best. They will perform very well in the National Training Camp,” said Coach Brown.
